Video Consultations
Use the guidance below if your clinician has asked you to take part in a video consultation using Vidyo.
Note: The Vidyo consultation software does not currently support Google Chrome, it's only compatible with Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox. We're currently working closely with Vidyo to resolve this.
Take part in a video consultation using Patient Access
Tip: Make sure the device you are using to connect to the consultation is not on mute, or your clinician will not be able to hear you.
- Sign in to Patient Access in the usual way.
- In the Appointments section of the Welcome page, find the video consultation appointment.
- Beside the appointment details, click Attend Video Consultation.
The video consultation launches, and you’ll be able to see and hear the clinician when they click the video consultation link in their system.
Note: If it's your first time using video consult, you need to download the Vidyo plugin. The steps you need to follow depend on the Web browser you're using, either Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox.
If you don't use Patient Access, take part in a video consultation using a URL from your clinician
You need to inform your clinician if you don't use Patient Access so they can send the website address (URL) to your email address. To join the video consultation, simply click the URL. You need to download a plugin application the first time you take part in a video consultation. The download only takes a few seconds, and you can download the plugin before the consultation starts.
Note: If it's your first time using video consult, you need to download the Vidyo plugin. The steps you need to follow depend on the Web browser you're using, either Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox.
Download the Vidyo plugin from Internet Explorer
- Go to the URL for the video consultation.
- On the Start Using Vidyo screen, click Accept & Download Plugin (green button).

- In the box displayed at the bottom of the screen, click Run to download and install the plugin.

- In the Name field on the Join Conference screen, type your name.

- Click Join. You’ll be able to see and hear the clinician when they click the video consultation link in their system.
Download the Vidyo plugin from Mozilla Firefox
- Go to the URL for the video consultation.
- On the Start Using Vidyo screen, click Accept & Download Plugin (green button).
The plugin is downloaded and progress is displayed at the top right-hand side of the screen. - When the download is complete, click the file to install the plugin.
- In the Name field on the Join Conference screen, type your name.
- Click Join. You’ll be able to see and hear the clinician when they click the video consultation link in their system.
Taking part in a Video consultation using Vidyo Mobile via Patient Access
You can take part in a video consultation using your mobile/tablet device, via the Patient Access App.
Note: In order to have a video consultation on your mobile/tablet device, it is essential to download the Vidyo Mobile App from either the Google play store or the App Store. If you cannot find the Vidyo app in your app store then your mobile device may not be compatible and therefore cannot be used for Video consultations

- In the Appointments section, find the video consultation appointment.
- Beside the appointment details, click Attend Video Consultation.
The video consultation launches using the Vidyo Mobile App. You will be asked to enter your name and you’ll be able to see and hear the clinician when they click the video consultation link in their system.
Settings and controls
During the consultation, you can use the Vidyo settings and controls as required. These are summarised in the table below; for full details of how to use them, see pages 8 and 9 of the Vidyo user guide.

IMPORTANT: Tickets can only be raised for Medical practices in England. If your practice is outside England, please raise your query directly with your Medical practice.
